Sunday Southerner – REFLECTIONS
Bible Texts: Jeremiah 29:11; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 8:28
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29 :11 )
My dear brethren in Christ, Peace be with you. Today, God through the voice of the Church, reminds us even in this trying moment of life, where it seems there is no hope anymore, He says: I have a purpose for you.
Every human being was created for a purpose. You are not on earth by accident, and your life is not meaningless. God created you for a reason, and He has something for you to do. Sometimes, we look at our lives and wonder, “What am I really doing here?” We may experience disappointment, failure, or rejection and begin to think that our lives have no value. But the truth is that your present situation does not cancel God’s purpose for your life.
God created you with value and the ability to contribute something meaningful to the world. You may have the gift of teaching, singing, leadership, encouraging others, or helping people in need. Do not think that you must be rich, famous, or popular before your life can have meaning.
Sometimes, your purpose begins with the simple things you do every day. Whatever gift you have, use it for the benefit of others.
Notably, people allow their background, family situation, lack of money, or past mistakes to convince them that they cannot succeed. But God can work through people from different backgrounds to accomplish His purposes.
Consider Joseph in Genesis 37–50. His brothers sold him into slavery, and he experienced imprisonment. Yet, God eventually used him to save many people from famine. Joseph’s difficult beginning did not mean his story was over.
In the same way, do not allow your past to destroy your hope for the future. Learn from your mistakes, develop your abilities, and trust God as you move forward.
However, having a purpose is one thing; discovering and working towards it is another.
Proverbs 22:29 teaches us that, God expects us to be diligent with the gifts and opportunities He has given us. If you want to become a teacher, learn and improve your knowledge. If you have a gift for music, practise and develop it. If you desire to help people, start with those around you.
Do not sit down waiting for everything to happen by itself. Pray, learn, work hard, and take wise steps towards your goals. God’s purpose for your life requires both faith and responsibility.
Meanwhile, God does not want us to live only for ourselves.
He wants our lives to make a positive difference in the lives of others. You can fulfil God’s purpose by being honest, showing love, helping the needy, encouraging the discouraged, and serving faithfully wherever you find yourself.
You do not need to wait until you have everything before you begin to make a difference. Start with what you have and where you are.
My dear brethren in Christ, God has a purpose for you. Do not allow fear, your past, or the challenges of today to make you give up. Discover your gifts, develop your abilities, serve others, and trust God as you move forward.
Remember, you are not here by accident. Your life has value, your gifts matter, and God can use you to make a difference.
May the Peace and Love of God that surpasses all things rest and abide in our hearts. Amen.
