Sunday Reflections
(Proverbs 8:22-31, Romans 5:1-5, John 16:12-15)
Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: to God who is, who was, and who is to come (Revelation 1:8).
My dear brethren in Christ, Peace and Love of Christ be with you. Having concluded the Celebration of the Third Person of the Triune God, today, we celebrate them together, as a whole though distinct in their functions and personalities. The three-in one God, the Trinity, a mystery beyond human comprehension. The Trinity, United in an unending bond of Love for all ages, a model for the civil society.
Today, we will be reflecting briefly on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity in relation to our human society, the uniqueness of our differences yet the urge to unify and build for a better living environment. The reflection will be split into three reflecting the Persons of the Trinity.
The first part portrays God the Father, as the creator of the universe and the very foundational stone on which it is built (Proverbs 8:22-31). The second part reminds us of the redemptive work of Christ on whom by faith and grace we come to participate in God’s Glory (Romans 5:1-5). And finally, we see the primary work of the Spirit in our lives, proceeding from the Father and the Son, makes everything clearer to the willing mind for the greater glory of God (John 16:12-15) .
In the first part, we saw Wisdom personified speaking about its eternity and Divine affinity with the Father. It was right from the conception of the universe, right in the mind of the Father and through its activities, the vast expanse of the universe came into existence. This shows the importance of Wisdom in our daily activities, if by wisdom the universe was made and sustained, then by Wisdom are we to navigate and overcome the challenges of the world we are in. God in His Omniscient (All Knowing) nature, deemed it fit to bring into existence Wisdom before creating, so does He also deem it fit that man be guided by Wisdom into live out a purposeful life.
Furthermore, we see Christ (the Son), the Redeemer who stands in the gap between the creator and the creature and whom through His merits have we now access to God. It is through faith in Him have we access to God’s grace, hence, rejoice in our hope of sharing in God’s glory, a hope that cannot fail us (Colossian 1:27). Existence in this world is equal to a life of challenges, a puzzle to strengthen us, though we fail, fall, lose etc, there is no need to give up, look towards the bigger picture (the goal, ambition, dreams and aspirations) and continue to march until you achieve your purpose.
Finally, we see the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, bringing to our understanding all the mysteries of life, not just for His glory but the glory of God. Since, He proceeds from the Father and the Son, united in an unending circle of Love, He does not act of His own but that which is the Will of the Father. He helps us in our journey of hope, the journey of life by making available unto us all the necessary tools (wisdom, knowledge and understanding) to navigate through life.
My dear brethren in Christ, we cannot look past the connection that exists between the Holy Trinity and our society be it micro (family ) or macro (socio-political environment/society). There is need for everyone to understand and carry out without hesitation their civic duties be it in the family or in public office. If we must grow as a people, then everyone must then be responsible for their actions, stepping up and being at their best in any aspect of life they could find themselves. Hence, the necessity for division of labour, everyone knows what he is to do and when to do and does it.
As the Father is the head of the Trinity, so are the religious, political and social leaders the head of the connection that binds us all as Humans, Africans, Nigerians and our various communities and families.
The Father brought forth Wisdom and laid it as the foundation for creation, so must we ensure we consult wisdom in ensuring to enforce peace and unity between those around and subject to us. Each individual has its unique personality which portray our differences but then these differences can be harnessed for the common good (bonum commune) and can be achieved through wisdom.
Also, as the Son serves as the mediator between the creator and the creature so are those called to serve in different public offices serve as the mediator, the image of the governing council of the society. It is through them that the people come to the knowledge of the policies and activities of the governing body gearing towards societal development. They bear the burden and become a source of hope to the people knowing that if they fail, the whole agenda of growth hangs on a rope, they must bring the people to the glory of the government.
The policies and strategies of the government are there to reflect what the government has in mind, it brings to the people the mind of the government, gives them a clearer understanding of what the government intends to achieve and calls for active participation. If the people do not understand, then there will be little or no cooperation which eventually leads to a failed agenda, the aim or goal (a sustainable society) is defeated.
This same analogy also applies to the family, where the father, mother and their children must work together to ensure growth and harmonious living. As the micro society, the family forms the basis of the larger society and if the family fails, how then do we expect the socio-political society to succeed.
Hence, everyone must take responsibilities towards growth and societal development, for the society becomes our dream world when everyone equally plays his or her role. Mind you that, inaction is also an action but while we choose our actions, we do not choose the consequences, our actions do.
Let’s seek wisdom… Quaere Sophiam.
May the Peace and Love of God that surpasses all things rest and abide in your hearts for all eternity. Amen.
